A STATEMENT FROM THE DOCENT

The art pieces in Nancy Guppy’s “The Further Adventures of Snippity-Snap” hang together into a loose canon that careens across the lurching, stacked deck of post-western narcissism, blasting a hot confetti of contextual narratives imbedded in the not-said. Each piece posits a discreet vocabulary of juxtapositions that speak into the marrow of its themes, a recursive hermeneutic that unscrews the DNA of retinal delight. Paroxysms abound and abide. Whether winking in the direction of Schopenhauer’s die Welt als Erscheinung, nodding towards Sartre’s les regardes d’autres or mocking Aristotle’s κέντρο των αισθήσεων (kaintro ton aisthíseon), Nancy’s roiling now-you-sea-it-now-you-don’t tilts at breaking windmills even as it slouches toward Bethlehem to be borne on the shoulders of a pre-conscious meta-foreclosure. Bravo!
